Give golf a go - Testimonial

I fancied trying out golf, but the thought of stepping over the threshold of the golf club without knowing anyone and not having anyone to learn with was daunting.

I was unsure if I would be able to hit a ball or even take to the sport as I was an absolute beginner. My husband came home from a round of golf and told me about some ‘ladies get into golf’ sessions the club was planning. I realised that if I was ever going to take the plunge and try golf, this was the perfect opportunity.

I signed up for the six-week course of weekly sessions. We were met, greeted and accompanied by friendly lady members who immediately put us at ease.

We were introduced to Sam, the junior professional, who lent us any equipment and taught the basics of golf in a small group, which gave us a flavour of the game. It was all run in a very relaxed and friendly environment, with ladies of similar ability, attitude and the same trepidation.

After attending two courses of the sessions, I came away having had lots of laughs, an enjoyment of the sport and some good friends. I decided at that point it was time to give golf a proper go, so I joined one of the good-value, phased membership offers the club had made available to LGIG participants. There was no need for me to be concerned about ‘getting out on the course’ or my lack of knowledge of rules and etiquette as the ‘buddy’ system gave me a mentor to phone with any queries or concerns and also to accompany and help me get out and round the course. This gave me the confidence to get out with friends I’d made while learning.

The coordinator of LGIG organised and hosted events so we ‘new ladies’ could meet other lady members. The lady members couldn’t have been a more welcoming, inclusive and friendly group of ladies. How pleased I am that I gave it a go – my only regret is that I should have done it earlier!

The Ladies Get into Golf programme is proving to be quite successful, and we continue to run six-week coaching sessions for ladies who may be interested. If you know of anyone in your friendship or family group who may be interested, please let me know.

A new six-week block is due to commence on the 23rd of July, subject to minimal numbers.

Please pass this message on to anyone who may be interested and ask them to message Judy Moorhouse on 07704275055 for further information.
